Bechigon - 私の赤ちゃん

Bechigon, 私の赤ちゃん version
Limited to 7
To be released December 20th at DIY Kaijufest (http://monsterworship.com/events/)

This one is almost straight out of a dumb, old horror comic. What is the invader's nefarious plan? To give new life? OR TO TAKE IT AWAY? This is also the first Bechigon to feature no spray at all, as the purple parts are actually done with a special plastic dye. Very cool effect, as it completely changes the color of the vinyl (plus it won't scratch!).

Bechigon - Nostromo

Limited to 7
To be released December 20th at DIY Kaijufest (http://monsterworship.com/events/)

Another GID entry with drippy paint, a little similar to the Deep Ones. But this time it definitely didn't come from the ocean... I really like the combination of red, black and metallic lavender on this one. I was originally shooting for a deeper purple, but I kind of grew to like this color (even though it does look like 80's eyeshadow a bit). This is still a test version, so the final one might be a bit different...

Bechigon - Deep Ones

Bechigons, Deep Ones version
Limited to 4 each
Released at Patchi-Kaiju Summit (Autumn 2008)

These guys were also on glow vinyl, but the paint application is a bit different. I wanted to get away from only spray and try a few new techniques, so I thought I'd try to make them look like they had just drug themselves out of the depths of the ocean (well, maybe the swamp for the green one...). They still glow pretty strongly, particularly the blue one, and I think the neon eyes make for a cool contrast.

Bechigon - Emperor

Bechigon, Emperor version
Limited to 15
Released via mailing list (10) and at Patchi-Kaiju Summit (5)

The first Bechigon on glow vinyl. The guys at the factory did a great job with the vinyl here, it has a really strong, solid glow. Another metal-derived version, but this one more on the black metal side. I thought about doing "corpse-paint" styled eyes, but the few test attempts didn't look up to snuff, and its not the most original idea anyway. I like the way this one turned out with just the tentacles masked!

Bechigon - Brothers of Metal

Bechigon, Brothers of Metal version
Limited to 5
Given to friends at SuperFest 47

This one was a riff on the old Manowar albums, which alwasy featured lots and lots of orange and black and silver. See, it works on two levels: its a figure based on the cover for a metal album, and its given to my "brothers"... But seriously, this one isn't quite as cool as I had hoped it would be. Not bad, but I was having some airbrush trouble so the silver wouldn't flow as well as I had hoped. Still, not too terrible!

Bechigon - Turbolover

Bechigon, Turbolover version
Limited to 15
Released at SuperFest 47

This was the second Bechigon to roll out, although it was the first paint job I really settled on. I love the way this one came out, with the neon pink paint on the inside showing through the eyes and teeth. I think it balances really well with the silver-blue egg. Inspired by the old Priest song by the same name, and the album cover that went with it. Not a direct rip of the album cover's colors, because they are kind of boring, more like the colors I wish they had used in the first place.

Bechigon - Battalion

Bechigon, Battalion version
Limited to 10
Released via Skullbrain BB (www.skullbrain.org)

This was the first Bechigon to go on sale, although it shipped out after the Turbolover was released. You don't see too many figures on clear vinyl with neon paint, but I think it makes for a pretty cool effect. The paint job was inspired more or less by old 80's horror movie posters, hence the version name: Battalion was the name given to Return of the Living Dead for its Japanese release.

A NEW BEGINNING

So this is a blog for Velocitron, so I decided to remove all of the old/out-of-date junk (mostly boring things about me going to toy shows) and focus on things Velocitron is doing or making.

First order of business: catalogue all the past releases.

Second order of business: Information on new or upcoming releases.

If you want to be on the Velocitron mailing list, please e-mail me at unicorn.kikanjyu@gmail.com. Should be some mailing list exclusives coming up in the not-too-distant future!
